Get your hands on Lakers tickets NOW

Tuesday 31 March 2009 @ 5:02 am
by Matt Ryan

Last season, during the NBA finals, the Lakers experienced an excruciating loss against the Boston Celtics. Regardless, it was a fantastic game with exceptionally skilled playing. Since then; however, the Lakers have been struggling to for a win. Having said this, Lakers tickets are still selling like hot cakes.

Celebrities sit on the sidelines, and player drama fills the news between games. Regardless, fans adore the team because of player skill, and ignore other factors. Kobe Bryant – shooting guard – has gotten a lot of credit for the Lakers current standing in the Western Conference, but he couldn’t do it without his skilled teammates. Players like Pau Gaso – forward – Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum – center – Derek Fisher, and Sasha Vujacic – guards – complete the team.

The Lakers were not always as well known or skilled. In the 1980′s, when players such as Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and James Worth, is when the Lakers began to win big and attract attention. Pat Riley coached the team during this time, and brought them to many championship games – of which they won 5! This is when the team began to have a following.

In more recent years fans seem to be following players like Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. Coach Phil Jackson has led the team to the NBA finals multiple times since the year 2000. The Los Angeles Lakers holds the second highest number of championships in the entire NBA; second only to their rivals the Boston Celtics. They do hold one thing over their rivals; they have the longest winning streak of all NBA teams.

The Staples Center, in Hollywood, is home to the Lakers, along with other L.A. teams. The stadium has 19,000 seats, and during many home games, is sold out! Even though the team shares this stadium, it is known as their home.

Lakers fans – including their celebrity fans – are loyal! They continue to buy tickets even when they experience a devastating loss like the one during last seasons’ finals. Jack Nicholson, Chris Rock, Denzel Washington, Dyan Cannon, and Andy Garcia are just a handful of the celebrities that you are likely to see at a Lakers game. Due to high-ticket sales and after a gross of $560 million, the team has been named as the NBA’s most valuable team.

The Los Angeles Lakers has 2,905 total NBA wins and have appeared in 29 NBA finals. This puts them just short of number 1 for total wins, right next to the Boston Celtics, but they are on their way there. The team has seen a good number of MVP awards for players like Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. (This team is definitely not lacking when it comes to holding records.)

If you are in the Los Angeles area, there is no better way to spend an evening that to watch purple, gold, and white running around on the court. Each team member holds a phenomenal amount of skill – so much so that it is nearly breath taking. Do not wait, purchase tickets for a Los Angeles Lakers game now; you will not regret it.

Can a basketball fanatic can help me out with my question about Magic Johnson’s HIV virus?

Thursday 26 March 2009 @ 2:21 am
Magic Johnson

What happened to Magic Johnson’s HIV virus?

I don’t follow basketball, or any sport at all, but I remember when Magic Johnson was identified with the HIV virus.
How is it that I never heard about his health declining? Is there a cure for HIV/AIDS that only the exclusive ranks of the rich and famous have access to? Or was it a random “miracle?” Fill me in! I am very curious!

Was there a sitcom or show in the 80′s that Larry Bird and Magic Johnson did together?

Sunday 22 March 2009 @ 7:42 pm
Magic Johnson

It had to do with a guy who had posters of Magic and Larry Bird. Whenever he had a problem or something like that they would come to life and provide him w/ some advice. I don’t know the name of the show or how long it aired for but I do remember that it was sometime in the 80′s.

Am I crazy, or did I see that Magic Johnson died of a heart attack?

Sunday 22 March 2009 @ 1:21 pm
Magic Johnson

I could’ve sworn that a few weeks back that I saw on ESPN news that Magic Johnson died of a heart attack while coaching some college team. I even did a search on yahoo, and found several related news articles. Yet, now, he is talking live on ESPN about the Mavs game. Did I dream this? Was it a hoax? Maybe I got the name wrong?
