Do the Chicago Bulls have anything left to play for tommorow night in their last game?

Wednesday 22 April 2009 @ 7:03 pm
chicago bulls

Do the Chicago Bulls have anything to play with? They are a half game up on Milwauke, but I think they own the tie-breaker with them. With the pacers, if the Bulls win tommorow night and have the same record as the pacers do they own the tie-breaker with them?

Why doesnt people think MAGIC Johnson is better then Micheal Jordan?

Wednesday 22 April 2009 @ 9:21 am
Magic Johnson

Magic johnson had it all, he could play almost any position with the exception of center. But still he is not given the credit that Micheal Jordan recieves. Is this because he was diagnosed with the HIV virus?

Did you think that Magic Johnson played sick during the Finals against the Bulls?

Sunday 19 April 2009 @ 9:58 am
Magic Johnson

I think Magic knew he had hiv way before he announced that he had contracted the virus. He announced that he had it after the NBA season was over back in 1991. I watched the finals that year and I was like wow because he looked slow. I mean he didn’t look like the same player against Micheal Jordan and the Bulls. Anyways, I am not making excuses for the Lakers lost.

How Do the NBA Playoffs Work?

Sunday 19 April 2009 @ 7:42 am
by Stephen Allmanson

The National Basketball Association changed their playoff rules after season in 2006. Basically, the format was changed to ensure that the two best teams in the league would not meet up until the conference finals, even if the teams are in the same division.

The NBA playoffs immediately follow the regular season, in which each team plays eighty-two games. Playoff games are played between eight teams in two conferences. The winners of the conference games play each other in the NBA finals. Each conference is comprised of three divisions. The winners of each division championship plus the team with the best overall ranking in each division are seeded one through four, based on rank. The teams with the next four best rankings are rated five through eight.

In the event that teams have the same records, there are six tie breaks which are employed to determine which team has a higher seed. These tie breaks are as follows: 1) the head-to-head record of the two teams, 2) division records, 3) conference records, 4) team records within the conference, 5) team record against other playoff teams, and 6) the highest net points over the course of the season.

A teams seeding is used to determine which teams they will play and is therefore quite important. There are three rounds of playoffs, the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Conference Finals. During the quarterfinals, the team seeded first plays the eighth seed team, two plays seven, three plays six, and the fourth seed plays the fifth seed.. During the semifinal matches the winner of the first-eight quarterfinals plays the winner of the fourth-fifth and the winner of the second-seventh plays the third-sixth. The winners of these two games are the NBA Conference winners play each other in the Conference Finals. The winners of each of the two Conference Finals face each other in the NBA Finals.

During each playoff round the teams must win a best-of-seven series. The format of which is 2-2-1-1-1. This means that the team with home court advantage hosts games 1, 2, 5, and 7, provided the series goes on that long. The first team to win four games, wins the series. The opposing team hosts games 3, 4, and 6. Home court advantage is decided by season record as opposed to playoff seeding. So it is possible for the six seed to have home court advantage over the three seed.

The best-of-seven changes format for the NBA finals, however. Instead of a 2-2-1-1-1 format, the NBA finals use a 2-3-2 format. This means the team with home court advantage hosts games one, two, SIX (as opposed to five in the playoffs), and seven. The opposing team hosts games three, four, and five. When one team has one four games, they are deemed the winner, so games five, six, and seven are only played if necessary.

The NBA Finals take place in June. The winning team earns the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy. In addition to the trophy, each player and the coaches and the general manager, are given a championship ring. The NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award is also announced at this time. The award is usually given to a member of the winning team, but there is no explicit rule that says it must do so.

Basketball?

Saturday 18 April 2009 @ 6:47 am
basketball

Hi! Im a freshman in high school. Its pretty weird, but I never really payed much attention to basketball, but ever since playing it in gym, I’ve really gotten to love the sport I play everyday and practice on my own a lot too! BUT Ive never been on a real team before, do you think if I keep up my work, I could maybe make my high school team next year?

I really appreciate any answers!

The Chicago Bulls need low post scoring, why don’t they try a trade and get a Channing Frye?

The Portland Trail Blazers have a lot of big that are capable of scoring in the low post and the Bulls need a low post scorer so why don’t the Bulls do a trade for Channing Frye. He is hardly getting any playing time for the Blazers.
